Kentucky Derby Day

Churchill Downs Races 1-7

RACE 1- OC 150K/C- 7 Furlongs

#4 Midnight Sands (4/1)- Ships in from Dubai and a winner of 5 straight races.  A very confident horse who is working well for his US debut

#5 Hog Creek Hustle (3/1)- Grade 1 Winner with some serious back class and if he runs any where to his best races he will be right in the mix

RACE 2- MSW 97K- 6 Furlongs

#7 Kadri (7/2)- Well clear 2nd in debut and should take a step forward in lifetime race #2.  It wouldn’t take much improvement to graduate amongst this group

#4 Proud Veteran (4/1)- Has ran 2 decent races on 2 different surfaces.  Seems ready to run his best race to date

RACE 3- MSW 97K- 1 Mile

#6 Pit Boss (4/1)- Wayne Catalano’s only horse of the day and he had an eye-catching workout on August 27th.

#7 Dynacharge (9/2)- 1st Time Gelding but still being protected is always a positive sign.  Very capable

RACE 4- MSW 97K- 6 Furlongs

#10 Copley (7/2)- Beaten favorite 1st time out on the Turf at Woodbine.  Wesley Ward’s only Derby Day horse and Corrales only here to ride 2 horses.  Seems this one must have a big shot

#1 Big Lake (5/1)- Sired by American Pharoah and Asmussen can get one ready for their debut

RACE 5- ALLOWANCE-N1X- Mile and Sixteenth (TURF)

#5 Spanish Kingdom (3/1)- Improving with each and every start and should be ready to pick up lifetime win #2 today

#7 Attorney Tim (8/1)- Strong late kick and if it turns into a bunch of horses coming late this one could be right there

RACE 6- ALLOWANCE-N1X- 7 Furlongs

#12 Alex Joon (10/1)- He has been away from the races since December when he broke his maiden right here at Churchill in very impressive fashion.  He has been working very well in company with Aurelius Maximus (Race 7) for his return to the races and should enjoy being outside of horses again today

#11 Cowboy Diplomacy (7/2)- Big performance in breaking his Maiden about 6 weeks ago at Ellis Park and takes on winners for the 1st time today.  Works look solid and he could find himself right back in the Winners Circle today.

RACE 7- ALLOWANCE OC 62K/N2X- Mile and Sixteenth

#9 Aurelius Maximus (7/2)- I liked his stable mate and workout partner in the 6th so if Alex Joon runs well it should be a good sign for this colt.  Looking to take another step forward after his easy win last time at FG

#4 Signalman (8/1)- This horse looks to get back into his better form that he demonstrated in his 2 and 3 year old campaigns.  This Grade 2 Winner should run his best race of 2020 today

$32 Pick 5 Ticket @ Del Mar

Here's a $32 Pick 5 Ticket I put together for today's sequence at Del Mar

1,3/ ALL/ 3,5/ 1,4/ 4= $32

RACE 1- Fillies Claiming $8,000- 1 Mile
#1 Amberella-  Draws the rail and stretches out to a mile today so I expect Prat to put her on the lead and make them come get her

#3 Cuddle Alert- The blinkers come off today and there is the drop from claiming $16,000 down to $8,000 along with going with a more experienced rider switching from Bryan Pena to Tyler Baze.  There are a lot of signs this horse might be ready to win today

RACE 2- Fillies Maiden Claiming $20,000- 1 Mile
ALL- I give all 8 horses in this race a chance so I decided to hit the ALL button and hope to get one of the better priced horses home.

RACE 3- Starter Allowance $40,000- 1 Mile
#3 All Star Parade- Put him on the ticket b/c he comes out of a key race 3 back for him on April 8th and in his last out posted a career high turf beyer number.  Could be right there

#5 Radio Silent- Also exits that key April 8th race and trainer Cliff Sise has been patient with this  4 year old colt who will probably be ready to take another step forward today

RACE 4- State bred Fillies Allowance $65,000N1X- 5F (TURF)
#1 Run Like the Boss- Only 5 life time starts so maybe has more mystery and upside than many horses in this race who have already shown to be sub bar performers.  Peter Miller at Del Mar is always dangerous and this one is 20-1 on the ML

#4 Surfing the Menu- Not sure if this lightly raced 5 year old is going to love the turf but he just might have to only like it in order to beat this group.  I'm expecting Talamo to have this one forwardly placed

RACE 5- Claiming $32,000- 6F
#4 Too Fast to Pass- Hope to be alive at this point in the sequence and watch Victor Espinoza get aggressive on the front end for this Peter Miller trainee

Gulfstream Park Race 6

Gulfstream Park
RACE 6
MSW (Turf) One Mile and a Sixteenth
#1 Dark Gemini (12-1 ML)
I think he and the 2 exit a strong race and I give the edge to the him over the 2 quite simply b/c I think he had tougher trip last time breaking from the outside and being caught wide around the track.  Today draws the rail and should be able to save ground today which should allow him to have a strong kick late.

Keeneland
RACE 10 The Blue Grass
#2 Donegal Moon (5-1 ML)
His stable mate Zulu is the one to beat but I think he is live and full of confidence.  A step up today and we will learn a lot about him

Good Luck

Gulfstream Park 4/2- Horse of the Day

Gulfstream Park
RACE 1
OC 25k/N1X (Turf) One Mile and a Sixteenth
#8 Indian Guide (9-2)
This 5 year old gelding looks to extend his winning streak to 4 straight today and keep his undefeated record since being claimed by the Michael Petro barn back in December of last year.  Looks to have good tactical speed to keep him close to the pace.  The only negative is that Trujillo rides today instead of Paco but if Elvis can carve out a trip I think Indian Guide gets his picture taken again today

Gulfstream Park 3/31- A Logical with a Longshot

Gulfstream Park
RACE 10
Maiden Claiming $35,000 (Turf) One Mile and a Sixteenth
#4 Letuspray (2-1)
This 4 year old colt appears to be ready to break his maiden.  Was in a little over his head last time but today takes a huge drop to the $35,000 maiden claiming level which could be concerning except for the fact Javier Castellano (Best Turf Rider in America) keeps the mount & it quite simply looks like a trainer trying to win a race and put his horse where he belongs.  I'd love to get 6/5 or even money on this guy today

#10 Clearly a Demon (15-1)
This is a longshot that I'll be throwing in underneath on some exactas with the 4.  5 year old is lightly raced and never got to stretch his legs in the stretch last time at this same level.  I do believe he'll show more today

Best of Luck

2 Plays at Gulfstream Park for Wednesday 3/30

Gulfstream Park 3/30
RACE 1
Filly Maiden Claiming $16,000 (1 Mile Turf)
#3 Rockhard Lady (5-1 ML)
If there is a concern with her it's the fact that she has been so far back in each of her 4 career starts but I get the feeling if they can even keep her even a tad bit closer that she has the best late kick in the entire field and could very well run them all down.  It's encouraging that she put together a strong gate drill on March 4th going the best of 9 on that day.  This may be a sign she's starting to figure out what she's doing.  Jockey Eddie Zayas gets the call for us today

RACE 6
Claiming $30,000 N2L (1 Mile and One Sixteenth Turf)
#3 Rock Eagle (5/2 ML)
Dropped into this level last out and just missed running a respectable 4th that day while closing down the lane.  I'm expecting the 1 Blue Harbor & the 6 Tapkee to be out on the front end today and if for some reason the two of them decide to dual a little bit this would set up even better for Corey Lanerie & Rock Eagle.  I'm ideally looking for a mid pack trip for him and he should have more in the lane than his competitors so if he's close turning for home, I think it's his race to lose.

As a side note, these races must stay on the Turf for these to be plays. Otherwise it would be a no play for that race.

Best of Luck,

Big Pick 6 Carryover at Del Mar- August 21, 2015

This blog will be completely dedicated to the Pick 6 with a carryover of 300k plus and is comprised of Races 2-7

RACE 2- Claiming 20,000 6 Furlongs
I went very deep in this race and will post my horses in order of preference
#8 Mistaken Identity (5/2)- Quite simply you just can’t ignore those works..WOW
#1 Shame On Alex (6/1)- Getting back to sprinting should be a big plus for him
#3 Sacred Ovation (8/1)- He won’t need to improve much to be a part of this group down the stretch
#2 High Test (7/2)- Broke very sharp last time and ran well last time.  Horse has been ITM 16/19 starts at the distance
#4 Limited Respone (10/1)- My comments on this one were “Not impossible” so I had to include
#5 Apollo Ten (15/1)- Needs to have a complete form turn around but if he does he’ll ring the bell at a big price to kick this sequence off

RACE 3- Claiming 40,000 Mile and Sixteenth (Turf)
Going 4 deep in this leg
#5 Loveenseek (3/1)- This horse will appreciate getting back to the turf…looks live
#8 Trifecta (5/2)- You can never ignore Phil D’Amato claim and on the turf
#2 Frat Boy (8/1)- AC Avila thought enough of this horse to claim at Keeneland in April….geld him and then put in for double the price he paid…horse didn’t run a lick that day as the favorite but was claimed by Gus Headley.  I’ll give him one more chance
#6 A Colt Following (12/1)- Only included this one b/c he seems to be improving and first time on Turf.  The Mystery horse in the field

RACE 4- Maiden Claiming 30,000 5.5 Furlongs
Went 3 deep in this one
#4 Kelly With A Twist (5/2)- Doug O’Neill with Tyler Baze aboard on a huge drop and adds blinkers
#10 Nusret (4/1)- First time gelding on the drop and Bejarano stays on board after being beaten as the post time favorite back in May at SA baby race
#6 Dixie Writer (3/1)- Might be in the best form of all horses in the race and Iggy will probably be gunning this one out of the gate. You’ll always get an honest ride from Iggy

RACE 5- Optional Claimer 20,000 Statebred/N1X- One Mile
Going 4 deep in this leg
#5 Nina’s Dragon (4/1)- Can’t ignore a winner of 5 straight shipping in here.  4 for 7 at a mile…should be a confident animal
#6 Storm Comin Thru (3/1)- Horse has improved drastically the past year and seems to be working well
#7 Chief of Staff (2/1)- How can’t you include this horse?  looks ready to go
#1 Guy Code (15/1)- Included a price horse as he stretches out from the rail.  If Q sends and can get clear it could be interesting…otherwise horse won’t be a factor

RACE 6- 80k Stakes Mile and 3/8 (Turf)
Single here
#9 Scooter Bird (7/2)- CNak has been on this horse many times including 3 wins.  I think Sadler has this horse right today and ready to fire

RACE 7- Maiden Claiming 20,000 One Mile- Fillies
Another Single and another 9
#9 Olympic Lady (3/1)- Dropping in class today and stretching out after having an even running line last time out.  Let’s see if Q can make Q a wealthy man to close things out

Total Ticket Is $576 but if this pool gets $1 Million new money today you are talking about 0% takeout which means it’s a great gamble
Good Luck today!
